OUR STORY
West Denton Indoor Bowls Club LTD was officially opened in March 2004 by Sir Bobby Robson.
A committee was formed to set up the management, Constitution, Rules and programme in readiness for it’s opening.
The Committee took over the full management of the facility in July 2013 after the West Denton Community Association was wound up. Since then we have set up a Company Limited by Guarantee, completed an asset transfer with Newcastle City Council – which gave us full responsibility for the operational management of the centre as part of a 99 year lease. We have also registered as a Community Amateur Sports Club.
Our aim is to develop an Indoor Bowls Club that offers a range of social and competitive playing opportunities, remaining vibrant, cost effective and inclusive to deliver a sports development plan that will encourage and allow growth in the sport for all members of the community.
We have over 500 members which we feel are the most valuable asset to the organisation. Our business model does allow for dedicated staff, but rather embrace the ethos of cooperative working, enabling members to harness their interests and unlocking their potential to deliver services for themselves. The Committee/Board of Directors always encourage new volunteers in all aspects of the business and we are committed in ensuring that volunteers are not only suitably trained in their roles but to develop people so they will be able to take on new roles as business develops.
Our long term vision is to promote excellence and the sense of achievements throughout the Sport Of Bowls and would like to promote the development side of the sport as well as striving for excellence at County, National and International level.
We are situated in the outer west area of Newcastle, close to the A1 and A69 road networks and have excellent access to public transport.
